The Phonograph and the Cart
by days of future passed inthese special pioneers took the lead in the phonograph work when the society voluntarily withdrew from commercial use of the radio.. to learn of the effectiveness of this new program let's read from the 1940 yearbook, which presents the report for the 1939 service year:.
the special pioneer work was announced at the columbus convention in september, 1937, and that work has continued now for two years with good results.
when the special pioneer work began the company publishers were not convinced of the value of making back-calls and the regular daily use of the phonograph.. about 200 specially chosen pioneers throughout the country took upon themselves the responsibility of really putting to use the phonograph.

What I was saying was, they made a lot of money on the phonograph and somehow they make money on the carts too. I don't think the watchtower makes the carts. But they certainly wouldn't let a 3rd party get all the money either. Just shows that the WT recycles ideas. Pretty soon they will own a bank that handles all the atm transactions so they can charge an extra fee for JW's contributions. Why not?

About 200 specially chosen pioneers throughout the country took upon themselves the responsibility of really putting to use the phonograph. They were sent into the large cities where companies were organized, and there it was proved, without question of doubt, that the phonograph had an important place in the proclamation of the Kingdom. In the past two years, because the publishers of the Kingdom became phonograph-minded, more than 20,000 phonographs had to be manufactured at the Brooklyn plant, and then we were unable to keep up with the demand.

I happened to stumble on this and noticed that the WT produced their own record players. Something that probably made them a lot of money. Isn't it the same with the carts? All the poor people shelling out money for something that was made with volunteer labor and cheap parts. Hope some of them played music on it at least. Can't do that with the cart. Unless you get the version that sings like in the video.
Maybe when the society figures out a new way to make JW's pay, they can use the cart as a dolly. Haul trash out with it.
The other interesting thing in the article was the sentence "when the Society voluntarily withdrew from the commercial use of the radio" Was there a controversy over this?

Religion, governments, workplaces - can be so powerful that it may take years before someone will stand up. The first ones might not be remembered, but because they dared, others will take courage.
I like your post.
There is a picture of men and women standing outside the WT in sandwich boards. They weren't many but they did what they could to protest the WT. I can't imagine how alone they must have felt and how great the odds were that they could make a difference.

Haha, I kind of thought that. People would be more concerned that you might get outed.
In the big scope of things, what is your desired outcome from this research?

I have no problem with people on here concealing their identity.
I'm curious. Did you say this because you are using your real name and you want to forstall people from telling you to hide it, or ......?
Anyway, nice that you get to be a researcher.

jwundubbed I loved my mac, don't get me wrong, but... the old macs you could upgrade or have a chance at fixing because they had a tower. Trying to do any kind of fix is impossible nowdays for most, because of the design. But I hate this kind of forced "rely on us" kind of thing. The very thing Apple was against - the 1984 big brother commercial - is what they have become. For the same reason, I'm really feeling like giving up on Photoshop elements, Their "new" and "Improved" product is just annoying. I wish I could use the version I started out with years ago because it was simple and it gave me the results I wanted.
Still Totally ADD - I like it's uniqueness too. There was a program on Hulu I think, that had steampunkers doing "rooms" That was cool to the max. : )
TD - I think the time machine is steampunk. Just ahead (or behind) it's time. hahaha
LisaRose - I love your costumes! You could easily go around a steampunk convention with those. Must have been fun making the guns.

Bible is good if we look for implied truth
by venus inthumbs-up gesture doesn’t covey much if we see only four fingers closed and thumb standing upward.
but if we look for the implied meaning, then it is a positive, informal signal indicating a job well done, and saying ‘keep it up.’.
similarly, biblical accounts don’t convey much if we see them as mere accounts.

People will do a "bucket" list when they find out they may only have a year or less left to live. Do all the things they thought they had enough time to do in a lifetime in a few weeks or months.
What else should they do? Trudge on as they always did and then die?
A guy at work that I talk to, has had many young friends die in accidents or drug overdoses. He views life as fleeting so do the things you like.
Yes, god does not answer prayers or listens. My personal view on this world is that it was created, but not by a god that overlooks everything. Just someone or many that wanted to experiment in making up an ecosystem and living things. That doesn't mean that it is "perfect" in any way. Why not have things if they make you happy? Sure you can't take them with you. Religion, at least the JW brand, wants you not to enjoy hobbies or leisure or music or just living life if it interferes with slaving for "god". Religion also takes away the natural desire and action to stop injustice. "We should wait for God to fix things."
I would like a better answer to death and people slowly being tortured by old age. But I realize now that waiting on a "god" is useless.
Why does this sure thing as death have no effect on people?
What effect would you want death to have on them?
